Mortality of oncohematologic patients admitted to the intensive care unit (icu) who required invasive mechanical ventilation (imv). do we have to delay intubation?

چکیده
Patients and Methods We include all OHP admitted to our ICU with respiratory failure during two years (2013 and 2014). Demographic characteristics, underlying disease, admission cause, presence of organ failure, severity scores and mortality were registered. Data were compared by analysis bivariate between those intubated within 24 hours (group 1) and those requiring VMI after more than 24 hours of support with NIV (group 2).

[Ten-year evolution of mechanical ventilation in acute respiratory failure in the hematogical patient admitted to the intensive care unit].
OBJECTIVE A comparison was made between invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) in haematological patients with acute respiratory failure. DESIGN A retrospective observational study was made from 2001 to December 2011. SETTING A clinical-surgical intensive care unit (ICU) in a tertiary hospital. PATIENTS Patients with hematological malign...
متن کاملDifficult intubation and outcomes in intubated patients admitted to intensive care unit
Background & Aims: Endotracheal intubation is commonly performed in the intensive care unit. Many international guidelines for difficult intubation management are available and the intensivists think that any endotracheal intubation in ICU is potentially difficult with several complications. Materials & Methods: After obtaining ethical approval, this descriptive and analytical study was cond...
متن کاملEarly non-invasive ventilation for acute respiratory failure in immunocompromised patients (IVNIctus): study protocol for a multicenter randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Acute respiratory failure (ARF) remains the leading reason for intensive care unit (ICU) admission of immunocompromised patients. In the most severe cases, high-flow oxygen therapy may fail to ensure adequate gas exchange, and mechanical ventilation (MV) must be used. This scenario is associated with high mortality rates of 40 to 60%, depending on the cause of ARF and type of immune ...
متن کاملThe effect of obesity on outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients in a medical intensive care unit.
BACKGROUND The effect of obesity on outcomes in critically ill patients requiring invasive mechanical ventilation in a medical intensive care unit (ICU) is uncertain. OBJECTIVES This study was intended to further explore the relationship between outcomes and obesity in patients admitted to a medical ICU who required invasive mechanical ventilation. METHODS All adult patients admitted to the...
متن کامل[Impact of noninvasive ventilation failure upon patient prognosis. Subanalysis of a multicenter study].
OBJECTIVE Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) constitutes first-line treatment for the exacerbation of obstructive pulmonary disease and cardiogenic lung edema. Several studies suggest that NIV failure could increase the risk of mortality, mainly due to the delay in tracheal intubation. We aimed to evaluate the negative impact of NIV failure in routine practice among Spanish ICUs. PATIENTS A subana...
